The electronic cigarette also known as the e-cigarette, provides nicotine as a vaporized solution. This alternative to tobacco smoking product is battery powered and sometimes looks like a traditional cigarette. The electronic cigarette delivers a similar flavor and sensation as inhaled tobacco even though there is no actual smoke involved in the devices operation.
Most electronic cigarettes consist of a mouthpiece or cartridge, a heating element or atomizer, and a battery. The most popular battery for these cigarettes is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The chargers come in varying types from the standard wall outlet plug, car charger and even USB charger.
In the automatic style electronic cigarette the user inhales the air sensor is activated and the heating element vaporizes the nicotine solution. There is also a manual style cigarette where the user activates the device by pressing a button.
The nicotine solution is sold separately and is put into refillable cartridges for use in the electronic cigarette. The solution is made up of nicotine, propylene glycol and glycerin. There are several different flavored solutions to chose from. The solution, also called e-liquid, is also offered in different nicotine concentrations. There are also varieties that contain no nicotine at all. Some of the flavors resemble the different flavors of standard tobacco cigarettes and some try to imitate specific cigarette brand flavors.
